Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm sure someone must have posted this before and it's sad that the owner wants to retire (will be missed)

But I had no idea they're turning out 200-250kg sausages a WEEK. Who's eating them all???

I have met Andreas beyond a chat over the chops, but, I'm not sure I'd claim that constitutes a trusted relationship. They do have a published email address and phone number which you might use.

Since you're asking publicly for a connection. Koktas, may I ask why you want to contact him?

Hi Hugh - I was after a more discrete offline conversation but since you asked - I’d be very happy to help him market the asset in a way that gets him the best deal possible and frames the potential of the business to a prospective buyer in a manner that compels them to maintain all that we know is great about the business. I would quite like it thrive - I don’t have 500k but have ideas and financial modelling skills.

Well, he'd be silly not to at least take a call.

I'm pretty sure he gave me his personal email and I sent him a message when I'd written the Baldwins piece last year. But I'm afraid I can find neither hide nor hair of it. You could call Rob at Tao Sports and see if he can put you in touch.

Awesome - thanks for the tip Hugh.

Try typing/messaging Baldwin's Butchers on the HoL members page.- They are HoL members. Andy is usually in the shop if want to meet him in person.

My family is eating a good proportion of them, that's for sure. In fact whenever sausages appear on the dinner table my two children immediately say without fail "Are they Baldwin's?" - if yes, the dinner proceeds very amicably. If no, little faces fall.

They really are a very superior sausage compared to even the best range of any supermarket.

I found it incredible that they're knocking out a couple of hundred kilos a week. I dont know what i was thinking they're doing in the back room but it must be sausage central for north east london.

I remember being astonished at seeing a butchers in Green lanes selling label Anglais chickens-the favourite fowl of any michelin star place you care to mention. Real shame about Andy retiring, and I suppose that means the excellent Billy as well. Let's hope the staff take it over....

Oh dear. Have they given a date? it's so nice to have a proper old-fashioned butcher rather than just Sainsbury's, Tesco and Turkish halal.

i Imagine it'll be when/if the sale goes through. given the lockdown it may be awhile yet.

Here comes a corner Kebab shop. Given crisi due to descend on us I don't see how anything else cna survie unles people are really, really, going to reassess their buying habits and think local...

Why don't Harringayers club together and start a community coop butchers?

I don't think you need to be so pessimistic about it becoming another restaurant, for a start I'd be surprised if the reason for selling is anything else but Andy wishing to retire, and enjoy his golden years, he deserves to as he's been a butcher on Grim Lanes for many, many years, more than 30 at least; he was previously located by the archway next to the printers, I think, and expanded to the present premises when it became vacant.

Also, he employs quite a large staff to deal with the demand. The queues on Saturdays, and at Christmas testify to that- there's always at least 3 members of staff there on most days (someone's got to make those sausages), and deal with trade orders . The reputation of Baldwins extends way beyond the confines of Green Lanes.

On another point, as it's retail, it would require a change of use to become a restaurant & LBH are not rubber stamping them anymore. The street is saturated with kebab houses, note the lack of custom for the recently opened double front Hanan(?) before the lock-down.
