Hornsey Historical Society president Ken Gay,

right, receives his award from Professor

David Hey

Mr Gay has been the society’s president since 2002, and prior to that its vice-chairman, chairman and vice-president.

Under his leadership the society, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, has expanded to offer lectures, outings and guided walks. He has represented the society in various conservation groups, was involved in outreach activities with schools and residents groups, has overseen the production of more than 30 books and contributed to newspapers, magazines and the society’s annual Bulletin.

He was also recognised for enthusing countless others to appreciate and investigate local history.

Mr Gay said: “I’m absolutely delighted at this personal award, but more so because it recognises the Hornsey Historical Society as a community effort that has gone on for the last 40 years, a society of which I am proud to be president.”
