Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just a quick note to ask people to double lock doors and be vigilant in and around the N22 area. Yesterday we had somebody force the front door open to our communal hallway before trying to kick in the front doors to two flats. We always deadlock our doors so fortunately they didn't get any further than the hallway. However, still ransacked our post and stole a few christmas presents that had been posted through the main front door.

The police have been to take evidence, they believe they have a clear footprint of a Nike Air Force One trainer.

Our streets usually very very quiet and we have no idea why we were specifically targeted, we presume the crook must have been walking around during the day looking for somewhere that looked quiet and empty enough to break into.

Time for new a new heavy duty door/lock!

My friend's house on Wightman Road has been the victim of such repeated attacks in recent weeks. It's a HMO and its slumlord couldn't care less about making it safe. The main door has been kicked enough times for it not to shut properly – perhaps by previous tenants wanting to check their mail, however recently the front flat was also kicked open while the tenant was out, not once but twice. The police was called on both occasions. A few nights ago my friend's flat was also visited whilst he was asleep! and this could be the second time, as he had noticed the back door left open once before. His wallet was stolen – this was near his bed while he slept! Called the police. The thiefs seem to also have kicked in the upstairs back door and walked about. All these are quite bold visits so it could be someone desperate for cash.

So beware! they are around checking out houses and trying their luck. I don't think anyone is specifically targeted, only the ones easy to force in. It's just a matter of locking doors and windows securely enough, perhaps leaving some lights on when going out, keeping an eye around, usual stuff but extra vigilance.
