Is a re-branding exercise for the Local Authority justified, in these difficult times, when the Council is cutting here, there and everywhere?
Some of the cuts are to front-line services, such as the closing of adult day-care centres.
£65,000 isn't a huge amount in the context of the Council's overall budget, but I believe it's a symptom of wasteful, irresponsible spending on a larger scale. I suspect the cost of the full roll-out will be more than the £25,000 suggested.
The last vanity branding refresh was only nine years ago and I'm not convinced it was justified then, either.

At the very least I hope they make every effort to give the work to a Haringey provider.
The best person for a job like this is so subjective.
I just refuse to believe that there aren't scores if not hundreds of very talented locals who could do this as well as anyone else. It can't be a full rebranding. We're talking about a council here. So essentially it's a visual identity makeover. Tain't rocket science.
I'm not surprised, but am disappointed. They could at least have tried to find a local out
Getting contracts with local councils is a common problem for small firms, they don't always have the expertise to pitch as well as more established companies. A lot probably also depends on where they advertised it.
Having said that, the council could possibly have added something to the procurement process to suggest that a local firm would be preferred. With so many 'creatives' living in the borough, I can't believe there was no one who could handle the contract.
Maybe they all commute from Haringey. They just pay their business tax to Westminster.
Well, to be honest, localist, I'm still struggling with why this money needs to spent at all. As I learn what the cuts are doing to local services, I have to admit that I didn't think, 'you know what, a nice re-brand will make this seem less brutal'.
No such implication was intended, Localist. But take HoL's logo. I didn't have any creative input into its design. Birdy, a Harringay local, offered to do it for us as a favour. Now it may not rank up there with the best visual branding ever designed, but I thought it was clever and appropriate for a community website. The H roundel is not only an H, but also represents the grid pattern on the the Ladder, Green Lanes and the Gardens. Birdy did that for £0. Imagine what he could do with £20k or £50k. It's not rocket science. It's certainly a skill, but, for Councils at least, it doesn't need all the hullaballo that often surrounds it.
Why do they need to rebrand ? What are they selling ?
Oh, wait....
H&H, it's stationery as in pens and pencils, not cars and vans.
Maybe the council could organise a competition for a new design, along the lines of the proposed change to the NZ flag
