Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Appalling traffic leaving Sainsbury's and Arena retail park - anyone know what's happening with it?

It took me an hour and 15 minutes to leave Sainsbury's car park today and I had a torrent of abuse from a revolting irate man and witnessed one car screeching up the wrong side of the road, over taking all the waiting traffic, screaming abuse at the hapless parking attendants trying to direct/calm the remaining traffic. I've seen several threads on this but they all seem to be from last year. I've reported the problem to the council (as I hope have many others) but the problem seems to have just got worse and worse. It seems particularly bad this week for some reason.

Does anyone know what is being done or planned to try and sort this out? I'm surprised that there hasn't been a serious assault or incident due to the ridiculously badly thought out traffic lights and planning of the extension of the store.

Frankly, I think you have to be woefully inattentive to get hit by a bus. They are great big bright red noisy things, that tend to move relatively slowly and in entirely predictable patterns.
Unless the bus jumped a red light - and I think we can assume it didn't - then this poor woman is a victim of her own stupidity.
Settle down Ben.

Danzigger.... it very probably DID run the red light. As did the truck that killed the elderly bloke earlier this year.

That aside, please envisage a situation where you are a bus diver approaching a lights controlled pedestrian crossing where it is OK for you to not have your foot hovering over the brake while you look out for pedestrians on either side. Tell me about it.
I'm sorry I've offended you Ben. I admit I was a bit blunt.
However, based on the information available, it appears that this lady has run into the road and been hit by a bus. I get frequently annoyed by the selfish and thoughtless behaviour of pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike.
As John points out above, we have a shared responsibility in our shared spaces. It seems to me that far too many road users of all sorts ignore these responsibilities, and the roads are less safe for all of us as a result.
Ruth, contact Lucy at the Haringey Advertiser. As she says, she is always looking for local stories.
I didnt mean to start off all this heated discussion which I feel I have done so inadvertently. I had no idea how that women was killed and certainly didnt want to jump to conclusions about it being the result of bad driving but I know how many times I have nearly been knocked down around that junction when peds have right of way.
Whatever happened in this individual case, the point is that the junction is awful, everyone, cyclists, drivers and peds often get impatient and uptight and this then leads to silly things being done such as drivers driving wrong way, peds trying to make it across when they shouldnt etc etc. Cars edging their way to the front so peds have no way to get across.
There will always be accidents cus people dont always pay attention. You cant control everyone all the time. But this junction, due to having so much going on there, is going to become more dangerous as it gets more congested. We had a whole discussion about too many lights on green lanes some time ago. Peds have to go thru so many there just to get across one road....
Torches and pitchforks? ... and a viking outfit Anette.
