Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Another cctv camera on this junction of Alroy/ lothair Road south really necessary?

There's a cctv camera on Alroy road already looking at this junction with Lothair road south to catch cars turning right, however yet another one has been placed just meters away on the top of Lothair road south itself. I question whether this is really necessary? I work with (not for - big difference :) ) Highways for another borough and I know that it costs around £20k to simply move a CCTV a couple of meters. Can u imagine how much it cost to put a second one there? This area is almost a xmas attraction in itself with all the unnecessary street signage, much of it backlit which again costs a fortune to install (and dismantle). And when we requested a tree at this location at the last traffic calming consultation for Wightman Road, we were told not possible because there were too many services - I wonder why? On that note, I also question whether a tree is impossible as it just requires 1m2 for a root ball.  Ive planted many trees in more congested areas of London and just look at our street trees on the ladder.  This particular area is large enough to park a car and Ive seen that too!
Its hard not to despair when we have all these consultations for traffic calming, putting so much time responding to them and then to our councillors when things go wrong or when we are not listened to. Some of us do have the expertise and do similar work in other boroughs. Shouldnt Councillors/ Officers do the sensible thing and use that knowledge? For years I feel that I have been palmed off with excuses which frankly would not hold up to an enquiry and on one occasion I did take it to the Ombudsman who ruled in my favour - those traffic islands on Endymion and Alroy Road?  You are welcome! But it's exhausting work when Council officer could simply just listen.  Am I wrong to question if this is an incredible waste of money and inefficient use of resources?

I think the first camera you identify has been used for some time to monitor/enforce the 7.5 t weight limit on Alroy/Wightman Rd (there's another one at the northern end), and looking at the camera orientation today I doubt it can also view the Lothair Rd junction at the correct angle to capture a number plate.

But I too am surprised that the 'no right turn' prohibition deserves a fixed camera. For one thing, with the current road layout it's visibly, obviously difficult to accomplish the banned turn in even a small car, discouraging many contemplating the manoeuvre from doing it. Also, similar prohibitions in other nearby boroughs  (e.g. the no U turn by Waitrose's car park in Islington) are intermittently monitored by camera cars plus, at each controlled location, a camera sign that's always present whether or not the camera car is there. That, I'd think, would also have been effective at Lothair Rd at less fixed cost.

Perhaps the council has records of collisions which in road safety and collision cost terms justify it? FOI?

Money on soon covering costs.

Especially with growing numbers that drive through No Entries and against road signs
