Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Air pollution alerts by text; low pollution walking routes online

A press release from Haringey Council altered me to two pollution checking services.

The first offers either a web or a text based service to get an average daily pollution reading for your part of London.

If you sign up and opt for text alerts, this is how it works:

When you sign up to receive pollution alerts from airTEXT, you select a zone that you'd like to receive the alerts for. Twice every day at about 7am and 7pm, computers at CERC's forecasting office make a prediction of the air pollution on every street in London for the rest of today or all of tomorrow.

When air pollution levels are predicted to reach MODERATE or higher levels over more than one tenth of your zone, we will send you an SMS message, a voice mail or an email, to warn you that pollution may be elevated.

Another way of avoiding pollution is to use walkit.com. This general urban walking information services offers a route planning in which you can choose a low pollution option. Below are the regular and low pollution routes from Harrringay to near King's Cross.
