Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

LAST NIGHT, on a cold winter's evening more than 50 residents across three Boroughs turned out for the Annual General Meeting of the Friends of Finsbury Park.

A fascinating talk on building conservation was given by Will Palin.

Later, his brother Tom Palin was elected to Chair the Group.

Kevin Duffy stepped down as chair and was elected Vice Chair. Kevin has presided over a period of the broadest and deepest growth in the group, probably in its history. That seemed to be the view of Bruce Kent, also present.

Tottenham's formidable Martin Ball was elected to an expanded Management Committee.

I managed to speak with Will Palin briefly. I hadn't been that stimulated about historic buildings and their importance, since attending lectures for urban design. I've kept to my own approach with reclamation, but it's great to see someone doing the biz, (as an activist.) We can do more locally.

Great to hear one of my hero's, Dan Cruickshank, mentioned in the talk.

I didn't realise Dan had invited John Betjemin to speak on St Pancras all those years ago, maybe there should be another statue at the station, or even more, credited as saving what we see today.

Here's Tom's note as chair on the FoHP page, nice touch.
