Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A friend who knows how much I enjoy subtle and well observed satire sent me a spoof ad for Haringey's new Chief Executive.

Half the fun of TV programmes like The Thick of It and Twenty Twelve is that they are close enough to the real thing to be hilarious and embarrassing at the same time. I told my friend that the humour in the spoof ad was far too crude and obvious. Nobody would believe for a minute that it had anything to do with the real Haringey.

Anyone got any recommendations for current satire - in plays, films or on TV - that works well?

Alan, the wording on your link looks great, even if it is similar to the phrasing for other recently advertised posts. The only thing I would add is that, going forward, the new CEO should be able, and certain aim, to secure the future for Haringey (in a meaningful, proactive and sustainable fashion, of course).

A spoof! So I wasted my time applying.

Afraid so, Michael.

But they really are looking for a new Chief Exec. I've been told that copies of the real ad were tacked on a fence in Lordship Lane; and also underneath some "missing cat" signs in Crouch End. There's no problem as the  Council will in any case continue to drift gently down the stream. So just forward your application to the Dear Maximum Leader.

Thanks for the tip Alan. Can I put you down as a character reference?

If we hadn't been told the last Chief Exec had departed, would anyone outside the River Park House bubble have noticed?

Has there been any slump or surge in the delivery of council services in the past few weeks since the c. £200,000 p.a. employee has gone? If and when a new £200,000+ CEO is appointed, will we notice the uplift, like a jet taking off the runway?

I suggest that, probably like many councils (and like the army*), LBH is top heavy and could do with a cull.

*The British army has, pro rata, four times as many Generals as does the US Army.

Clive, I feel the tarantara of the Haringey hunt coming on (after the glorious 12th of course). Stirrup cups and hounds at the Civic Centre? (although they may go to ground at Starbucks)
