I take pictures of front gardens.
Their uses and abuses in Harringay fascinate me. I often wonder how people can bear piles of rubbish outside their front door but equally admire the care that some people put into making their strip of land beautiful.
Today I walked past an absolute beauty in the Gardens and just happened to have my camera.
I had to snap it. I hope you agree that it is as lovely as I think I it is. Phillipa, one of HOL's Facebook fans commented... "this front gardener knows their Piet Oudolph!"

What gorgeous use of colours.
Which way does this garden face? I would like to make more of my front garden but because it is south facing it gets absolutely baking so I'm not sure what to grow there. I am currently trying buddleja and I'm wondering about Forsythia.
This picture is of a south facing garden. The mix of colours and grasses is really effective, isn't it.
I have a south facing front garden too which also hots up, but lavender, herbs like rosemary, sage and oregano, sunflowers enjoy it and I've got geraniums and nasturtiums going nuts in the window boxes.
I've got a south facing one too and it can be a bit of an ordeal with the heat, especially as we've only got containers.
The thing that has worked really well for me over the last few years is perennial wallflower (bowles mauve I think it is called). Flowers all year bar the winter and has evergreen foliage. Doesn't mind baking sun one little bit. It looks like this:
