On Tuesday I saw my GP in Green Lanes. He gave me a slip of paper for an X-ray and another for some blood tests. The next morning, having left my car (at G&N garage in Wightman Road – a first class outfit) for its service and MoT at 8.30, I bought a paper to read during the long waits I was expecting. I walked down to St Anne's and found the X-ray department tucked away at the back - near the much better signposted sexual health department. They open for business at 9am and I was all finished and out by 9.15. I walked along to the modern Laurels health centre and picked up a blood test ticket. It was number 74 and they were already dealing with number 72. I was out of there before 10 and walked back to the parade for breakfast at Hala. I had read hardly any of the newspaper so I spent the time instead in the very agreeable ambiance of Hala - my new restaurant of choice. Gözleme with feta was more than enough and come with olives, a bit of tomato and free Turkish tea. £3.50 the lot. This was Harringay on a good day. Car service, NHS and breakfast, all in perfect working order.
I will try your garage next time I need an MOT or Service. Its good to hear "Good News" Stories about the NHS.
And Hala is my favourite restaurant - the staff offer excellent service and the food is fantastic - healthy, fresh , tasty and very good value.
