Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

At last, something along the lines of a local manifesto.

From the new Harringay LD website:

KEY POLICIES

  • We will carry out an appropriate holistic traffic survey of the Ward and its immediate surroundings within the first two years of a Lib Dem administration in order to tackle Harringay’s terrible traffic problems.
  • We will make the council crack down on illegal conversions of family homes into flats and bedsits, ending Labour’s failure to use the council’s existing
    enforcement powers.

  • We will be tough on fly tipping and push for better, more frequent, street cleaning.
  • We will reinvigorate local democracy by reforming our Area Assembly meetings. Making them more inclusive and better publicised.

OTHER POLICIES

  • We will campaign for Parliament to change Labour’s disastrous Gambling Act which has resulted in the clustering of betting shops on Green Lanes. We will work to secure greater powers for councils to stop new betting shops opening.
  • We will mobilise the community and the council to press for safe crossings, as we are now doing at Green Lanes and Frobisher Road.
  • We will step up our campaign to secure fair funding for Haringey’s schools.
  • We will introduce 24-hour policing in crime hotspots.
  • We will install grit bins in Harringay ward in anticipation of harsher winters in years to come.

Well done for finding these, Hugh. I haven't had much luck locating specific details of these on the various lib dem blogs. Considering the election's only a month away, am I alone in finding an absence of politicians on my doorstep? I have had lots of flyers but my neighbours and I would have liked to speak to some of them!
We have had door steppers Mei but specific pledges have been hard to come by.

This list is a good start from the LDs. What would be even more helpful is if the party - and all others - could add a series of posts giving more specifics to flesh out the one liners.

I'm sending this post to David Schmitz, Karen Alexander and Chris Ford. (I'm not including any of the St Ann's or Seven Sisters candidates at this point since they've chosen not to open themselves to discussion with the hundreds of their voters who use this site).
Hello Mei

I'm one of the three Labour candidates for St Ann's ward and we've been ringing doorbells. As people from the other parties have said, a lot of residents are out when we call. Or maybe they're making supper, taking a bath, or just fed up answering the door to party campaigners!

Which is why you might have had a leaflet or card instead of a friendly face. Another constraint is that St Ann's ward has thousands of electors. So while I enjoy meeting residents, that's an awful lot of doors - some of them with an astonishing number of doorbells.

If you live in St Ann's ward, Mei, I'd be delighted to meet you and your neighbours. Please email me at: Zena.Brabazon@googlemail.com

Thanks Zena. Are Labour St Ann's planning to issue any indication of their plans/goals for the ward / neighbourhood(s)?
Thank you for your email, Zena. I'm afraid I live in Noel Park Ward but if your fellow candidates would like to meet me and my neighbours please do let me know when they'll be out and about and I'll make sure we're around.
