Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A Century of Wallpaper Layers in my Cupboard - Can you Identify the Periods?

After moving in some years back, we saw that the cupboard at the top of the stairs had been left untouched by all late twentieth century modernisers. Whether by chance or design, we decided to leave it as a wonderful little record of the house's history.

There are three layers of paper I can see, the oldest of which is only barely visible. I've got my ideas on which age each belongs to, but would be interested in what other people think.

Below is a series of iphone snaps. The first is a general shot of a corner of the cupboard where all layers are visible. The second shows the oldest green layer, then there's the middle and the newest layers. The house was completed in 1896. Any thoughts anyone?

I had something very similar in my loo, when I moved into my flat. At least 16 layers, with the top layer being some kind of pine laminate stuff (on all 4 walls and the ceiling for that cosy coffin effect), and the middle layer being vinyl tile on a roll effect! Lovely!

No exaggeration, the room was a good 2-3 cm wider once it was all stripped off!
The oranges and browns are very 1930s

The people we bought our house from told us they had stripped off 7 layers in the hall, and got down to some swastika-patterned paper from the 1920s - apparently it was quite popular in the pre-Nazi era.
