Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A mother desperate to save her son’s life says she will never give up hope and will do anything to help him. Three months ago, Elaine Thompson, of Courtman Road, Tottenham, was given the news her nine-year-old son Keir had Duchene Muscular Dystrophy.

Since the diagnosis at St Ormond Street Hospital she has been organising events to raise £30,000 to take Keir to Canada for life saving stem cell treatment.

More from Haringey Independent here

Members of HoL have shown they can be good at collecting money for local causes (map/cashmob) and I hope that we can do the same again.

You can pledge online: http://www.gofundme.com/1csdqo using paypal or credit/debit cards. Or you can contact the mother, Elaine direct via the funding site.

Heart breaking story... :'(

For the record, I thought it was a bit crazy too, John. I had no idea - but we asked for tenners and we got them and more. Even with the pledges in hand, I had no sene the price would climb that high.

In so far as what makes the Tuesday Ketchup, Ant, do remember that it's put together in the middle of a busy working day and we do the best we can.

Sure i understand about the ketchup Hugh, I wasn't criticising just noticing things seemed to be not working out for this. Its interesting how things catch attention or don't. I don't mind that we got the map for such a high price, it was a easy amount for each of us and we got it, hopefully the same sort of thing could happen here.

It is strange. Sometimes I delude myself that I'm getting to know what will 'take off' on HoL and what won't, but still I get it right sometimes and I get it wrong at others. I guess there are all sorts of complicated factors at play.

What's the Tuesday ketchup?

The Tuesday Ketchup is an summary of recent HoL activity email Hugh and Liz send out, on Tuesdays.  Doesn't everyone get it? As it only covers the few days since the Weekly Update email its shorter so things mentioned in it have a better chance of being noticed.

Omg you are all so amazing!! Mum has raised £3,000 from the charity footy match too

Ian from the journal has also been tweeting, so whatever publicity Im sure he'd help

Jessica, which Sunday in Nov? I'm there & selling, although can't cook... But will be behind that stall all day selling :)))
Will do... Let me get on to this after work !!!

if all hols gave a bit it wouldnt be too difficult

Hi! We just donated online and I'm sure others would if they knew about it. Maybe an email could go out to HoLs specifically with a fundraising plea in the title and link to this page as not everyone opens up the updates or ketchup and reads each story? maybe not possible but it's just an idea.....

Well done Lisa C

Hi All

I am so sorry I have had a cold/flu and also am inundated at work until mid dec when the event Im organising for 10,000 people will be over!!

Jessica, sincere apologies I never got back to you - Its 2:30am and Ive just finished work :(

If someone else could take up jessica's offer I will try my bestest to help out on 1 or 2 of the Sundays
