After a five hour hearing at the Civic Centre this evening the Haringey Council Licensing committee rejected the application for a betting shop licence at 507 Green Lanes (corner of Warham Road).
They explained that the grounds for their decision were the arguments put forward by the residents in line with the objectives of the licensing act.
There's bound to be an appeal, but at least it's been a good first round on this one.
On a less good note, I learned that the licence for 32-33 Grand Parade has already been granted. Apparently the applicants already had an old application from last year going through appeal at the magistrate's court. The case hadn't been picked up by any residents' group and they won the appeal. They submitted the new application as belt and braces in case they lost the appeal.
