Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

On the UK Poverty Gap (Because I know Ya care)

Income inequality and poverty have fallen faster in the United Kingdom than in any other developed country, according to a new study by an international organisation of industrialised states.

"Income poverty" in the UK - defined as a household with less than half the median income of its country - fell from ten per cent to eight per cent between the mid-1990s and 2005, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

For the first time since the 1980s, the poverty level is well below the OECD average, the report says.

But the gap between rich and poor is still greater in the UK than in three quarters of its peers and the UK wage gap has widened by 20 per cent since 1985, according to the study.

See the report here on the OECD's website.
