Anti knife crime concert planned for Finsbury Park in September

"Oasis have expressed an interest in taking part in a special awareness concert in London, it’s been reported.

The event in Finsbury Park, scheduled to take place in September, is being organised to highlight the issue of knife crime in the capital.

According to BBC6 Music, Oasis, Lily Allen, Madness and Kelly Rowland have all been named by organisers – but none have yet to confirm their participation.

The concert, which would attract 39,000 people, has been backed by London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson, and the Metropolitan Police.
Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher recently called on politicians to take action against Britain’s knife problem, saying he feared the reality of the problem, and the impact it could have on his own children.
“In my day, status was trying to be somebody, do you know what I mean, not trying to kill somebody?” he told the BBC.

In London alone, twenty teenagers have lost their lives in 2008 as a result of a knife attack."

Good idea. Noel the 'hard man of rock 'n' roll' could pull off a useful good turn here. To think, I nearly ran him over in Camden once. :)

All sorts of initiatives are being mooted at the moment. Read in an Islington paper today that police are visiting the homes of known trouble makers and meeting their collegues in Camden to try and coordinate action against cross borough gang problems.
Got this from yesterday's CMU Daily (http://www.cmumusicnetwork.co.uk/):

OASIS, MADNESS FOR KNIFE CRIME GIG
According to reports, Oasis and Madness are amongst the acts being lined up to appear at a London concert promoting knife crime awareness. The gig, apparently set to take place at the capital's Finsbury Park, is said to have the support of London mayor Boris Johnson and the Metropolitan Police. Other acts rumoured to be appearing include Lily Allen and Kelly Rowland
and here's me quoting CMU Daily again, this just popped up on my screen:
"Speaking of that proposed anti-knife crime gig, yesterday we reported on rumours of various bands in line to play the event (assuming it goes ahead), one of which was Oasis. Well, we just received a phonecall from their people telling us that they're in no way involved with any such show. So, now you know."
Oh well, never quite sure how much effect a load of privileged popstars living in mansions (who probably never even walk to the corner shop) can have on the vital issues of our day. Or is that just the voice of someone who saw the original Live Aid and is still seeing terrible deprivation in the developing world. perhaps if some of these multi millionaires gave their cash to charities, like Kids Company
http://kidsco.org.uk/ we'd all be spared the sight of tubby Suggs singing 'Baggy Trousers' to a load of red faced English men.
Bah humbug
More here.
Im confused. Who is this concert supposed to be reaching out to? If its young kids, Oasis and Madness are really not who Id recruit as headline acts.
Hmm, and certainly wouldn't put Jay Z & Oasis together.
Matt, keep up! Noel likes Jay Z now.
He does? Hmm, must be because of how Jay Z inspired that Glastonbury crowd. OK, bring on Mr Jay Z as well!
Just what I was about to say...
Don't complain too much it could be worst, what if Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin offered to play? ;-)
true. Very true.. *shudders*
