Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

"Conservation Area Advisory Committees...Everywhere in Haringey" ................except of course Harringay.

This from the HFRA:

Are you concerned about preserving Wood Green's conservation areas and historic buildings? Did you object to the proposed demolition of the Edwardian police station? Wood Green has five conservation areas: Wood Green Common, Trinity Gardens, Alexandra Park and Palace, Noel Park and Bowes Park but only one of these (Ally Pally) has a Conservation Area Advisory Committee (CAAC).

CAACs were first established in the 1970s and have two main functions: to assist the local authority in formulating policies for their conservation area(s); and to act as a continuing source of advice on planning and other applications which could affect an area. Membership of a CAAC typically includes representatives of residents’ associations, local historical, civic and amenity societies, local business groups and chambers of commerce.

There are four CAACs in the west of the borough - Highgate, Muswell Hill, Hornsey and Alexandra Palace. Until recently there was no CAAC for the twelve conservation areas in Tottenham but one was set up a year ago with the support of the Council Conservation Department and is now very active. This leaves Wood Green being the only area of Haringey without a CAAC.

There is to be a CAAC training event in the summer, partly for the Tottenham CAAC members but also for anyone interested in forming a Wood Green CAAC. The provisional date is Saturday 14th June.

For further information contact Joyce Rosser, HFRA Heritage and Conservation Officer: jrosser@lineone.net

I know that Tottenham Civic Society claim to cover Harringay, but in all the months I've been on their mailing list Harringay has never once been mentioned. So if we want to conserve what we have left, it's up to us. A Harringay CAAC sounds like it would be a start (No jokes about CAAC and the Passage please).

Are they lumping us in with Wood Green or are we Tottenham? It would be useful to know where the TCT think we belong and who is representing our interests. At present, looks like no one.
