Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just to keep you in the loop:

Next General Meeting for all Residents Associations

Tues April 8th, 7.15pm - 9.15pm

At the Sandbunker Community Project, Sandlings Estate (Off Glynn Rd , or via Whymark Ave N22 - ground floor, half way along the east side of the estate)

Dear fellow residents,

Last month’s meeting saw a huge turnout of 17 local RAs from every corner of Haringey, including 3 or 4 who’d never attended before! There is so much going on in Haringey thesedays and real communication and co-operation among RAs is growing in many local areas, eg campaigning to save local Post Offices, over local development schemes, or over a wide range of shared concerns and common goals.

We’re all realising that working together means we learn from each other and have more effect.

You and your members are invited to attend our next general meeting for RAs, on Tuesday 8th April. Please let us know if you can or can’t make it. Copies of the minutes of last month’s very lively and productive meeting will be available there, as will other key documents your RA may wish to have.

1. AGENDA The agenda will include:

a. Updates from local RAs News from local neighbourhoods (from reps present at the meeting).
b. Save Our Post Offices A look back at the excellent protests and campaigning over the last 6 wks.
c. Planning and development Local controversies and planning policies, including:
- the continuing mobilisation by many residents associations and traders in South Tottenham to save and restore the Wards Corner area
- new plans for a massive development of 400 homes and offices in Lawrence Rd , N15
- latest news about Haringey Heartlands
d. ‘Homes for Haringey’ - pick up a copy of the schedule for the £200m repairs and refurbishment programme, plus discuss your views on the recent large rise in rent/service charges
e. Street parties fancy holding one this year? Come along and share some ideas and advice!
f. Supporting local GP surgeries under threat The latest news on health issues and campaigns.
g. ....and any other issues you or your RA would like to discuss or seek support for!

2. AGM 2008 Our AGM will be on Tuesday May 13th, 7pm. RAs can put forward nominations for election of officers. You can also propose amendments to the Constitution. Its a chance to review the previous 12 months of co-ordinated activity by RAs, and the priorities for the coming year.

3. HFRA WEBSITE For latest news: What's New at HFRA

4. MAILINGS To save time, effort and funds, Federation mailings are only by email to the 115 RAs on our internal email list, and by post to one rep for each of the 40 RAs we don’t yet have an email contact for. If your group is not yet on our e-list, please send us an email contact for one of your reps.

5. FINANCIAL APPEAL As we approach our AGM we are making our usual annual appeal for subscriptions and donations to the Federation. This is even more urgent and important than previous years as we have had no grants at all in the last 12 months, but have been more active than ever! If you’ve not sent us some money already, there is an annual affiliation/ subscription fee [due each April] - £20 for funded groups, £10 for those unfunded, or a donation. All cheques payable to: ‘Haringey Federation of Residents Associations’. If you can't afford to pay, don't worry - all RAs have an absolute right to full automatic membership and equal involvement in the Federation.

Best wishes and solidarity

Does anyone on the site attend these meetings on behalf of any of the Residents groups that are on this site? It would be interesting to get a perspective on what they HFRA do from someone 'in the know'.
