Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Dear All,

Every six months as part of our Community consultation process we have to get 200 responses to a simple survey called a `Have a say`
It usually takes us some time. A circular sent to my E-mail list the last time produced a grand total of zero replies.

If we could generate sufficient responses it would not only involve a good and varied cross section of the public in the process, but would also free more time for us to patrol for the good people of Harringay Ward.

This is your chance to have your say.
As you can see they are just simple questions the results of which are given to our analyst.

This is only part of the process of consultation but goes some way in deciding our priorities for the superceding months. ( ie What problems you wish us to deal with)

All I would like to point out is that we would like people to be as specific as possible and not be general such as eg `In the Green Lanes area`.

Could you please E-mail me at Glyn.Kelly@met.police.uk

I look forward to your replies

I think Hugh could setup an online version of that for you and you'd get many more "replies". How come you need all those contact details? Nice that politicians get a mandate on a plain old majority of the often paltry turnout but you get a silly fixed number of replies required before it counts - and you've just asked for negative responses. Good luck (sorry, not being flippant there).
See this post for a link to the online version
John,

Thanks for your reply

The contact details or for two reasons. The most important one being that if the reply indicates a specific problem that the respondent wishes us to action we may need to contact them. Either for clarification or just to report back on action taken.

Secondly community contact is supposed to be what we are all about

On a more cynical note if there were no contact details we could never prove we hadnt just made them up.

If there is a better way of doing this on the site I would welcome any ideas from anyone as I`m not very computer literate.

Not sure what you mean about asking for `negative` responses
Ahh... what I mean by "negative responses" is that there is nowhere for me to say "I don't think there's much crime on the ladder at all compared to other parts of London and I would like to see you spending more time in the cafe's on Green Lanes chatting to the owners and having a cup of tea" which I think is a good way of making sure it stays relatively crime free. I think the fact that you got zero responses last time maybe reflects this.

An email address OR a phone number should be sufficient for contacting people, you'll have privacy issues with all that data as it is. Certainly when I sign an online petition they just want my email address.
Sent to you Glyn.

John, you don't have to fill in the bits you don't want to. Looking at it from a Police point of view I think it verifies people a little more rather than just emails of which you can have several. It's a personal choice I guess.

If I start getting loads of junk mail from the Met, I know who to blame : )
Actually, I think Glyn and the PCSOs do a fair bit of the "spending more time in the cafes on Green Lanes chatting to the owners and having a cup of tea", being a presence as it were. When there were a lot of problems at the bottom of Allison with dodgy car dealers, he spent time around the area just making it clear he was about.
Also the fact that your perception that there is less crime here is testament to the hard work the SNT and the residents' associations have put in to improve the neighbourhood in recent years. I'd also like to say that I have heard from several grateful residents that once the SNT get involved they are very active, following up quickly and keeping you updated on events.
A big 'moan' from me on this site is how little consultation appears to go on with the community, therefore I think it's the least we can do to take part in a process when we are asked.
Glyn, would it be sufficient to give one form of contact e.g. email address?
I'm sorry, I'm hardly around during the day to see what they're up to. I just assumed that they were probably discouraged from "socialising" like that.

Hugh got a ridiculously high hit rate on his survey, despite the narrow scope. It was easy to fill out and we'd only need a 50% hit rate on here to get Glyn his 200 responses. I'm waiting for the online version - where the contact details would be our ids on this site.

Without disputing the hard work that the residents associations and the police put into our neighbourhood, I think you'll find that its geography is largely responsible for the low crime rate - I think it's also responsible for the high amount of traffic though too.

Hands considered smacked. See you at the pub tonight.
Any contact details will do. Thank god we were not issued a form asking age ranges ethnicity etc. I always find that a bit of a cheek
Have dispatched email. Let us know if you get many as a result of the site.
If there is any pushback on an online survey from your bosses because of security then point out to them that smtp email is just as insecure. The only reason you know that email came from Liz is because she told you on here. It is very easy to impersonate someone else in emails.

The CTC have a great website for reporting holes in the road... how come it's not that easy to report problem crime spots?
I've had a message exchange with Glyn. He's discussed the issues with those wot he needs to internally and the online version will go ahead.

I will set it up, but then pass it over to Glyn. He'll set up a new password so that only he and/or his SNT colleague/s has access to the data. There will be a rider to the effect that that anything relating to an individual person or address should be sent to Glyn via the more secure E-mail route.
Hello Glyn

Will certainly fill in the form. But could you say a bit more about what sort of concerns you're interested in? I don't mean to be funny - I was typing away furiously about my various pet hates, but was then a bit stuck on some of them when it comes to the when/where/who questions. Are you only interested in things that are specifically to do with crime and/or safety for instance? Is traffic a legit issue to raise? Thanks. Any thoughts would be helpful.
