Tony Armstrong of Locality puts forward the case on the Local Government Chronicle that the answer for cash-strapped councils is not to shut, sell off or leave derelict local social infrastructure such as swimming pools, youth centres and green spaces but to back transferring assets to the community.
As he says, councils are the custodians of these places not the owners. That's us. The public. And once those community places are sold off or left to rot, they're gone for good.
