Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Part of a the £5million Mary Neuner Road road opened in 2008 could be torn up as part of the Heartlands development scheme.

Haringey Council has confirmed that the road between Harringay and Wood Green, could have “considerable alterations” made to it as part of the outline proposals for the Haringey Heartlands scheme.

The Haringey Heartlands scheme, which will see more than 1,000 new homes and flats, a public square and several shops, offices and restaurants, was approved in September.

A council spokeswoman said: “The road was built with central government funding to open up the Heartlands area for regeneration.

“Outline plans to transform the area were given the green light by Haringey Council in the autumn. Any re-alignment of this road as part of the more detailed proposals would be funded by the developer, not the council.”

The road was built to allow Ontime and Haringey's recycling vehicles to have access to their depots from the south of the borough rather than just through Wood Green. Whatever Brian Haley said at the time and whatever was written on the justification for funds from TfL should be taken with a grain of salt.

Ironic that they will actually have to tear it up to "open up the Heartlands area for regeneration".

I believe it was floated at the time as a spine road to take through traffic off Wood Green High Road. We were all worried that this would result in a massive increase in traffic on Wightman Road.

The serpentine layout and the lack of signage ensured that this never happened.

The people of Hornsey Park Rd were told it was to take traffic off of their road...

Councillor - " What do we tell the residents to justify this road ? "

Planner - " What would they like to hear ? "

£5,000,000? “considerable alterations”? Not to worry, it's only taxpayers' money.

When the Mary Neuner's been considerably altered, transformed and regenerated will they rename it the Gina Adamou Road?  Well, Mary Neuner's a dead Mayor and the road wanders around with little known purpose for being there.

Our rule is: First name after someone's been dead for five years..

I think that's not a bad idea..
