Public Notices have just gone up announcing that the Council propose to introduce a 20mph limit along Wightman and Alroy roads, with speed bumps and raised humps at the pelican crossings.
I still think that you're not going to see a reduction in traffic with a 20 limit, just an increase in stop-start driving, and a decrease in air quality. And a bunch of impatient annoyed drivers instead of impatient drivers.
Removing the islands and adding a few additional zebra crossings would be a lot better for the road. Removing the islands would allow drivers to spend more time watching for pedestrians instead of driving round chicanes, and a few more zebra crossings would make it much easier for pedestrians...
I guess I just find this whole 20mph 20mph thing a bit annoying to be quite honest. It's obvious that slower cars hurt people less. And the logical conclusion to that is stationary cars. But actually, personally, I find cars to be quite useful things... Banning 4x4s on the other hand would get my full approval, and that would surely save quite a few lives too!
