Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

2 incidents in the past few weeks...anyone know any more about them?

On Monday night walking home around 10pm I tried to walk from St Ann's Rd up Woodlands Park Rd but the whole junction with Avondale was fenced off as a crime scene across and the police man there said there had been an assault.

Two weeks ago on Thursday night there was a huge noise along the back gardens of the houses on the south side of Cranleigh Rd, and various neighbours looked out to find seven men in their twenties carrying a large bag, climbing over the fences and gardens, from East to West towards the Woodlands Park Rd end of our road. When people shouted they were calling the police, a voice shouted over that the police were already there and chasing them. However, it seems they weren't caught and escaped. Three of them tried to break into the upstairs window of a house on Conway Rd before escaping over the garage. Two of them burst back into my garden through the wooden fence, leaving a cartoon style hole in the fence. Two others broke the fence at the end climbing over there. Anyone know any more about this? It's made some of my neighbours very anxious, partly because there were so many of them. Some neighbours didn't hear it because they'd closed their windows due to a really noisy party in Priscilla Place off Conway Rd.

I am really surprised I missed the incident in Cranleigh road as I back onto Priscilla Close. However, I didn't miss the extremely rowdy party in the Close and I can see that the house the party took place in has now been boarded up so presumably it was being squatted or being used for nefarious purposes.  Priscilla Close continues to be a particular problem for those of us who back onto it and recently some of us complained to Haringey about refuse (wood planks, building waste etc) being thrown over our back walls and hedges.  Haringey has written to the residents but has no powers to enforce that the private landlord tidies up the place.  So I'm sorry I can't help you with incident with the seven men - just rather surprised I missed it all given my proximity to the place!
As far as the first incident is concerned, I can tell you what I know, as we live a few yards down the street from where the police tapes were up. We didn't know anything had happened until about 10.30, when our son came home and told us the road was blocked off. I went out and talked to a policeman. There were a couple of police cars and two or three policemen there, and the junction was sealed off with tape. He told me that a man had been found lying in the road at around 9.30, bleeding from the head, apparently having been attacked. The police were called, and by then the man was regaining consciousness, and was taken to hospital, where he was apparently recovering. They had sealed off the area as it was a crime scene, and were awaiting word on whether forensics would need to come out. I think the whole thing was resolved around midnight. The next morning a patch of dried blood was clearly visible in the middle of the junction.
Don't know if this is related, but I have friends living on Conway Road and there's been a lot of trouble there lately - big groups of teenagers/young men hanging out on the street all hours, basically taking it over and leaving a number of residents feeling uncomfortable/intimidated in their own homes.  Have been really worried for my friends; they've lived there for years, and never had anything untoward before - it all seemed to start quite suddenly, and for a while, nothing concrete seemed to have been done about it. Think the police are far more involved now though and seem to have managed to move the guys off, for the time being at least, and, from what I understand, are upping their presence in the area. Possiby as a result of the incident you describe.

I live in Conway Road and we were getting a bit worried about the number of youths hanging around outside our house. They weren't threatening as such, but were rather loud and sitting on our car. There have always been a few teenagers hanging around, but only up to about 10 and I recognised most of them as local. They were a bit loud but usually disappeared by 11ish. But over the last month or so the group got bigger and bigger each night, resulting in a week last Wednesday (13th) there was a really massive group, I'd say upwards of 50 people. I couldn't understand why such a big group of people were just hanging around, laughing and talking in our street. At about midnight a police car turned up, the noise volume went up again - but not shouting, it all sounded pretty jovial - after about half an hour the crowd dispersed and I've not heard or seen anyone outside since. So the police obviously said something to make them go away and not come back (hopefully).

I didn't hear the men running through gardens in Cranleigh - maybe because the little housing association houses separate us from the south side gardens in Cranleigh. Sounds awful though, and the incident in Avondale.
