Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Over-large Jewson delivery lorries
An eighteen-wheel container lorry came up my street yesterday with a delivery for Jewsons. It had a great deal of trouble turning off Green Lanes and almost mowed me down when I tried to ask the driver where he was going.
I appreciate that he was just following instructions, but I can't see that this size of vehicle is ever appropriate in a residential area - either on Ladder roads, Wightman Road or Endymion for that matter. Which begs the question, why on earth is Jewsons situated in such an inappropriate place for the kind of traffic they generate.

The idea was they they would get these deliveries by rail... Ha ha ha. (Ditto the new Concrete Factory at Hornsey).

That's an oblique reference to the fact that Jewsons is built over the former Harringay station goods yard, then. The concrete factory is equipped to get deliveries by rail, there are two dedicated sidings and an unloading hopper - see it on Google Earth.

Good point. You have to wonder how all those businesses that used Wightman Rd as a fabulous cut through (e.g. A-Z foods) are doing.

Well I've acquired two large scrapes on the doors of my car since the Jewsons lorries were forced up Umfreville. It's a good thing I'm not precious about my car...one more scrape doesn't much matter to me. I'm not sure what can be done about Jewsons...they presumably own or lease that site legitimately

They were on here a couple of years ago defending their "right" to access their depot on WIGHTMAN RD from UMFREVILLE RD and back down BURGOYNE RD. Once backed into a corner with the actual law they deleted their account. I think it was a PR person and not someone at the depot.

You may be being too harsh there to Jewsons... It could have been this muppet who tried coming up Umfreville yesterday, found he could not get where he wanted, and then struggled to try to turn down Burgoyne. He ended up (I assume) going back down Umfreville the wrong way...

Yes I saw this on the other thread but it wasn't them. My damage was done about 10 days ago. You do wonder where they were trying to get to, don't you....
