Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Didn't have time to fully investigate but the prices are very reasonable and the lady at the window is charming

Needs seating area imho.

Now has tables and chairs

You can pop over to the Tesco Metro if you're desperate.
Typical..they better not sell alcohol ..we have enough drunks in this area..if you want alcohol mate go to a pub!

Looks good, anybody remember the green tea-hut on the common?. I used to regularly buy a sausage sandwich and tea served in a polystyrene cup (I put the hyphen in tea-hut in case anybody thought that it was a hut that sold green tea).

I think when people were talking about having a cafe on the common the meant somewhere further away from the Costa over the road... hey ho.

Agree. I would have thought near the sporty area would be better. Ho hum

( But now having tried it, the coffee is better and much cheaper than Costa)

Looks great! Charming. :)

Now we just need a public toilet so people have some practical encouragement not to urinate in nearby streets or the Passage...
Peter there is a public toilet across the road but people still urinate in the streets. What they need to do is enforce the bylaw which prohibits drinking alcohol in the streets!

It's my understanding that alcohol consumption is banned on Ducketts Common. 9 years ago when I moved to the area the park was knee deep in rubbish, cans, condoms, winos and vagrants. I and most other woman would rarely walk across it, for women with prams and kids it was impossible.  The police and council (and some locals) targetted it for cleaning up a few years ago. They patrolled it regularly and moved on the alcoholics who would gather in intimidating groups round various park benches. When I pass it now I smile,  to see kids, families, all local people enjoying a cleaned up green area, outdoor gym, basket ball etc. The last thing we need is to encourage drinkers to hang out there again. GO TO A PUB eg The Turnpike just a few yards up the Lane. And I congratulate the police and council for all they've done to make Ducketts Common a safe and pleasant place to be.

Glad you are happy with the way things have improved. Regrettably as a resident opposite and have been for 51 years things are still quite bad sadly..there is a bylaw which prohibits drinking alcohol in all haringey streets but they get away with it because shops sell them in a brown paper bag so they can hide the fact they have an open can or bottle. The council should fine the shops for doing this. I have seen this area go down and down and it's a great shame because whatever the council do it's the people that ruin it
