How are we going to move forward on this?
I think petitons are a bit of a crude instrument. See example of why I feel this in my comment regards Wood Green Car Free axed. Good for some relatively simple campaigns such as the advertising poll, but I believe polls can't deal effectively with more complicated issues. More complicated feedback mechanisms are needed, such as consultation forms and possibly local meetings.
And perhaps you'd like to point to a succesful consultation run in this borough of late Matt.
I was happy with the open space consultation, although that was relatively small compared obviously.

We all know consultations are difficult and often strictly limited in finance. I just think it's a shame the reaction of the council has been to drop the idea of pedestranization (can't be bothered sp checking that) completely as a reaction, apparently, to the HoL poll (I wonder what the rest of the borough's citizens think about that). Although I doubt that was the real reason. The consultant's report to council probably just threw the idea in as a radical after thought, so it was probably not ever really on the cards.
I think they're just using the petition as an excuse.
Yeah, I think so too. It's Hailey having the last laugh. That's why he's a politician.
i was just wondering...what did it say on that bit of the banner before the Mcdonalds advert....
The banner was just the words you can see in the right of the picture. No logos, pics etc we were told they couldn't put such frivolity on when we asked for something more lively and Harringay related
I think there are ample opportunities for advertising through other means without needing to plaster it all over the high street. I'm not anti-capitalist, but think that there is room for discretion and decision making by the council as to whether it is appropriate. My humble opinion in this case is that there is already too much visual crap around the junction without this!
KFC banners coming down in Crouch End after protests so we need to make a bit more noise about it
268 Votes against McHarringay bridge advert! That's a phenomenal number for a little poll like this with 88% against! Well done to Simon for pointing it out to us btw
