The new Green Lanes bars and cafes opening between Pemberton Road and Effingham Road are beginning to show a clear trend...
New trendy Polish restaurant about to open next to Yasar Halim
Brouhaha doing great guns next door
Passion Cafe with a great new Chef (old Carpet Shop)
New American style Bar and Burger place on the corner (old Obergine) about to open
The inimitable 'Blend' cafe further up
Jam in a Jar bar, food and music venue - now well established
and probably others I've missed...
Next it'll be a delicatessen and a Waitrose....
No complaints provided we don't replace the Mediterranean buzz of Green Lanes with a scene that aspires to Crouch End (& priced accordingly)!

Yes - don't know what came over me not to mention the doughnuts. Probably because I don't want to remind myself of the fact that I will happily travel to London Bridge for doughnuts
Just imagine if you could persuade him to have a stall at the newly resurrected Harringay Market. One can but dream....

Surely there's a Krispy Kreme nearer than SE1?
When I want bread, I go to Sainsbury's ( or sometimes the little shop on the corner of Raleigh Rd )
Bread is merely a vehicle for transporting jam or marmalade from plate to mouth
Hmm, I thought that was called a spoon, John.
No bagels, no baguettes, no nan, no roti? No rye with caraway seeds? No stotties, oatcakes, or pumpernickel? No matzot, pikelets, parathas, focaccia; crisp breads or pittas? Does Sainsbury's do a decent brioche? black bread, sweet bread, or smørrebrød?
"Truly, thou art damned like an ill-roasted egg, all on one side."
I reckon there's enough demand for both to coexist...variety is key.
For laugh out loud satire, how about the estate agents renaming the South Bronx as SoBro?
Except that it seems to have happened - at least according to Spike Lee's now famous talk about gentrification in New York City, last February. There's audio as well. But you have to turn up the volume as his gentle, low key, murmured reflections barely rise above a whisper.
I lived in Hackney when I first came to London, over 15 years ago. At the time it was much unloved. To sell houses in parts of the area I saw it described as 'East-Islington'.
My favourite though was when I met some snooty couple in the Alps and were chatting. They were from Islington I was told, again, over 10 years ago when the hole area was unloved. I narrowed down. Which bit of Islington?…Oh yes, I know the area… and so on. Ultimately I worked out she was from Dalston. She was not quite so snooty after that exchange.
