Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

So 2am this morning I was woken by a council recycling truck humping down our street back to Mary Neuner Rd. I still can't find out who is responsible for recycling but it is definitely someone in the council.

I have been woken all but one morning this week by an absolute speed demon in a smallish truck at around 5am. I estimate that he is doing about 50mph by the time he gets to my hump. It must be great fun. This morning I set my alarm for 5am to get his rego (yeah he's going so fast even I can't see it clearly). He woke me up at 450 and was travelling so fast I don't think I could have seen it even if I had already been awake.

Is it just me getting woken up by this?

7:10am we had a skip truck (BX54 ZTM, not liveried and not O'Donovans - yes I have them on speed dial).

I am tempted to take my car down to the bottom of the street and leave it with the hazard lights on all night blocking the road. Good luck Raleigh Rd, I'll be thinking of you.

02087429222 is their number.

We have no alternative as Policemen bothered with speeding do not exist at that time of the morning and he's under 7.5t.

His rego is LM06 DKJ although you can't see his registration plate at the moment because it's so filthy.

And I spelt their name wrong, it's Allan Reeder Ltd of course.

Thanks.  I will complain next time I hear it, but I never seem to awaken enough to take note of the time

OK, I will post the time on here. This morning, as I said, it was 5:15 and it would be nice if you could call them too. He was followed just as I was getting back to sleep half an hour later by a council rubbish truck with its lights going... but our rubbish day is Monday.

If there is anyone from Raleigh Rd out there who is fed up with large commercial traffic on their road at odd times of the night/day then please speak up. I have noticed that the council avoid Lausanne Rd now but use Raleigh instead. I presume they're afraid of the shouty man of Lausanne Rd.
Most of us are :-)
I spotted an absolute monster galumphing down Wightman this morning but at least he wasn't speeding. Probably actually had something in there to be careful of.
Once my head hits the pillow you cant wake me up until my staggered three alarms do :-)
RY55 MOD from O'Donovan's at 7:05 this morning was apparently a new driver and didn't know to avoid the shouty man of Lausanne Rd. They will put a note in his payslip and presumably, he won't be back. I feel strangely satisfied to be more effective than local authority enforcement and yet at the same time worried that I am making The Big Society look plausible.

these do make me laugh!! i can just imagine you charging out of your front door waving a newspaper! you're old beyond your years, john!!

:-)

Sometimes... The skip trucks make such a racket I can just wander over to the window and watch them go past.

Seems to me. John, that you illustrate neither the ineffectiveness of local authority enforcement nor that a volunteer Big Society is the alternative.

Even by focusing on one street aren't you still failing to stop drivers ignoring the restrictions? Possibly, you're displacing trucks to other Ladder roads.

And perhaps worse still, you may find yourself becoming more sensitive to the noise. With part of your mind waiting for next noisy truck to hurtle down Lausanne Road.

A friend of ours lived in a flat underneath someone who often came home drunk and woke her in the early hours. The signal that he'd finally gone to bed was the thump, thump of his boots dropping on the floor above her. Sometimes she'd lie awake waiting for the second boot.

Why didn't she just yell

"For God's sake, drop the other shoe!" like the bloke in the sitcom
