Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Council vehicles given free reign to disobey the Ladder 7.5t limit
From extensive research undertaken today it would appear that the council have given Haringey Council lorries carte blanche to ignore the 7.5t access only limits on the Ladder.
My morning began with a phone call to Structural Steelwork and Engineering Ltd of Lea Valley after I took a movie of one of their trucks using my road as a shortcut. Using the A406 for them must be torture at the moment so of course they're taking shortcuts down Lausanne Rd. After a very nice phone call to the foreman, who also has a speedhump outside his house, I got a promise that he would speak to the driver and check the tracker in his vehicle. Sure he tried to tell me that the truck could have been 7.5t but after insisting that no way could he get that amount of steel on a 7.5t truck he looked it up, 18t.
Anyway, a not so productive time with Haringey Council later on in the day. Their vehicle impounding yard is in Mary Neuner Rd and they can't get to that from Turnpike Lane as there's no right turn. They HAVE to use a ladder road, be it Warham or Lausanne or whatever and their vehicle impounding lorries are at least 12t. So I got on my bike and meandered on down there after taking a nice movie of an impounding vehicle who couldn't hear me clearly enough the first time asking him what he was doing so came around the block.

Down at the Haringey Vehicle Pound I spoke to someone who was actually quite good at saying nothing and I expect to see in politics one day. First he tried to accuse me of having this bee under my bonnet because I had previously had a vehicle impounded by the council. Then he tried to say that their trucks were 7.5t (pull the other one sunshine, my father sold trucks, I know you can't carry another car on 7.5t). The most laughable one was when I said I had a movie of it that I had to show the truck going past the 7.5t access only sign. I asked him to come back with me and see the sign for himself (all I wanted was for him to have a word with the drivers) but he said he didn't have time.
Does anyone else have a lot of the Haringey Council vehicle impounding lorries come down their street?

I just caught this guy...
Coming out of West Green Rd, around the common and up Raleigh Rd back to his depot around the corner from the pound. Trying really hard not to be cynical about this, and failing.

Harringay impounding truck 31/8/10 0920.
Went length of Lausanne and turned right onto Wightman (both 7.5 T limit )
He had a car loaded so there was no question of him enforcing on Lausanne.

I'm not sure I have anything particularly useful or helpful to report other than lending my support to this thread. On Pemberton Road, we regularly get trucks which must be over the weight limit (from the noise they make going over the speed bump just up from our house) at ridiculously early times of the morning (like 5 or 6am) - needless to say I'm still in bed so I never quite manage to get pictures, but they wake me up so I know they're there!

I was going to post to this thread a few days ago as I live on Pemberton (opposite the Infants). We have a shed load of trucks up and down the road continuously, the difficulty is working out who can or cannot legitimately be there. A lot of the traffic goes to deliver to Yasha Halim, the shop at the bottom of the road. To be honest, I am not clear what the situation is as a result of traffic seeking (legitimate) access to Yasha?!
That said I saw a fat Biffa wagon hurtle down the road this morning, and it did not look like it had a right to be there to be honest, no pics as I was half dressed as the house shook as it took the raised crossing at the Passage Way at speed. These guys seem to be the biggest problem as they take the humps like they don’t exist. Not sure exactly what to do about it to be honest. I know John McMullan has commended on the cracks in his house etc. As an aside, I have made a separate new Forum on House Cracks (http://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/house-cracks), if anyone has any thoughts on this matter).
@ Bethany. I think a lot of the vehicles you hear are for Yasha, or more likely, the infant’s school. They often take deliveries at the crack of dawn (5am onwards). I had a real problem as many are refrigerated trucks and were consistently leaving their engines running as they made their delivery. Even with double glazed windows it was a real pain. It seems to have got better since we had a word with the head, though I am not clear what time they should or should not be there.... Anyone got an answer on this one?

Thanks for that Justin, I hadn't thought of the school needing deliveries. That said, I caught (on camera - haven't uploaded pic yet) a Harrow Green Removals lorry which must have been at least a 12 tonne turning from Wightman onto Pemberton this morning at 8.50. As Harrow Green is a commercial moving specialist, I'm intrigued to know what they were doing on the Ladder if they weren't just taking a short cut, but given the start of the new school term, I guess it may have something to do with the school now that Justin's mentioned it.

Dear Ms Cunningham
I attach a photo of impounding vehicle MX09LKG which at 0920 on 31/8/10 drove the whole length of Lausanne Road N8 and turned right into Wightman Road. As you will be aware, both these roads are subject to a 7.5 T limit.
As a car was already loaded on the truck, the excuse that it was heading to attend a call on Lausanne Road will not work.
I should be grateful if you could discuss the matter with your contractors or, better , impose a fine on them as they have already been made aware of our concerns yet continue to flout the 7.5 T restriction.

John, please send a copy of your email to Ms Cunningham - with a link to this thread - to the Director, Niall Bolger asking him to look into this. (niall.bolger@haringey.gov.uk). Copy to Cllr Nilgun Canver (nilgun.canver@haringey.gov.uk).
It's interesting to consider this together with the discussion on HoL about taking photos in public. And Haringey's block on its staff accessing social media websites. (Although not Hol).
