Joys of old pipe work expected to continue giving

They are slow to repair or change the old Victorian pipes yet charge consumers high amounts for water and keep telling us to save water. They should get their act together

This was totally avoidable. I saw a leak there on Saturday morning which looked more like a small open tap. Sunday evening driving through the water was worse then Monday this. Thames water are quick to tell us to save water but continue to waste water via leaks that then turn into floods as they are so slow to act. A disgrace and I hope they are fined by Haringey council or whoever is responsible for the road

I saw a leak on Friday and assumed (possibly wrongly) it had been reported!

I agree. It's their policy to wait as long as possible it seems. It's like always waiting for the threat of a bailiffs' notice before you pay your bills!

Years ago at a corner of where industrial meets residential, there was a noticeable dampness to the pavement & road. Called Thames Water, merely got an acknowledgement. Several weeks later, called again, wrote in - merely got acknowledgement that they were "investigating" & they had a back log of similar instances to fix. Called Haringey who informed me that they knew about it & had also called Thames Water & informed them that they'd be fining them at the 6th month point. The dampness by that time had become a small stream, making it dangerous for anyone to walk along there, but it was a remote corner, where cats/foxes used to go & frolic, so little hardship on the surface. I expect my garden got a bit more moisture as the road sloped slightly towards it. Anyway at pretty much exactly the 6 month point Thames Water came & fixed it.  By that time it was a far bigger leak, had wasted 6 months worth of water escaping, & so would likely take far longer to fix than if they'd attending within days.

They need to employ more investigative surveyors & repair teams, or external contractors such as Laines For Drains, who have attended several times where there is a communal drain in a private garden, for greater general efficiency.

Love the brief shot of the two kids desperate to dive in

Now fixed

I walked down Bury Road as it was happening and the water had gone straight through the shops you can see and out the back.  The insurance claims are going to be huge.

Sure Thames waters Insurance Company will be getting a very large Bill

Unless they can prove someone else was responsible

Back in the mid 70s, I had a Saturday job in Boots, when it used to be situated along Wood Green High Road.

One day there was a torrential downpour and storm which caused a flash flood. Within minutes, the High Rd was under about two feet of water. It spread through the shops. Boots closed its doors to customers but there were still plenty of people banging on the doors, as they sloshed around in the brown, sludgy water, begging for their prescriptions and baby food.

Many of the shops were closed for days or even weeks afterwards and lost a lot of stock. I can remember going into Dorothy Perkins long afterwards and getting the whiff of sewage which still lingered.

Is Sainsbury’s open again?
