Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just read this in the Haringey weekly newsletter. Wondered why music was always coming out of the building... Pleased to see action has been taken

From the newsletter -

Rakkas restaurant in Green Lanes, Haringey has had its license revoked after continuing to breach the COVID restrictions that have been put in place.

The council's Licensing Committee took strong action on 2 regulation breaches during the application for a review of premises breaching COVID regulations.

In defiantly opening his premises, license holder Mr Ozbek had shown a disregard for the laws and regulations put in place to protect the public throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This resulted in him being served with a Prohibition Notice and breach of COVID Regulations Fixed Penalty Fines totalling £3,000 for failing to uphold licensing objectives.

“Having considered the evidence of the police and other responsible authorities and the conduct of the licence holder, the committee was satisfied that there had been a failure to uphold the licensing objectives, and on this review, in response to the unlawful activities put before it, the committee was satisfied that it was appropriate to revoke the license.”

They obviously don't know who he is!

Neither do I???

Utterly selfish - glad the council took action.

Quite amusing! So honoured to have honest, hard working operators such as Mr Ozbek on our high street!

Time for a sideways move for Mr O perhaps - the empty ex-fish and chip restaurant next to Rakkas is under the same ownership and work has been taking place inside recently. Unless Haringey can use a 'fit and proper person' objection?

Let’s hope so.  Having your licence revoked would hopefully be an indication of “fit and proper”. The officer report makes interesting reading

Finally the council has taken action against a business breaking Covid rules - hurrah!!!

Ali Ozbek owns the Medi-Chem pharmacy by thr bridge and was recently a Labour councillor.

As if i needed another reason to never vote Labour again

The owner of the pharmacy is Ali Gul Ozbek.  The owner of Rakkas is Ali Sukran Ozbek. If you look them up on the Companies House website they are two different people

And the similarity of their names is, of course, mere coincidence.

(Note from site admin: Comment edited to remove libellous statement)

Ozbek is a not uncommon surname and and Ali is a very common first one.  For many years my next door neighbour but one was also called Michael Anderson.
