Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Ramadan
At midnight tonight the Islamic month of Ramadan begins. As well as fasting during daylight hours for those who are able to, other practices take place such as Taraweeh prayers in the evening and going into seclusion for the last ten nights.

Huge traffic jam on Wightman last night with much honking etc - caused by people parking on double yellow lines on both sides of the road by the Mosque, reducing the width of the road to one lane only. Police car sitting watching doing nothing.
Why are some groups of people allowed to break the law with impunity ?

If I parked anywhere in Highbury on a match day, my car would be towed within minutes :-)

Michael, it used to be misery near White Hart Lane stadium. Then the Match Day CPZ was introduced. It has largely solved the problem - though there's some displacement to the streets just outside the CPZ area.
There is clearly a serious parking problem near the Mosque. But I'm also pleased to hear that that the Mosque itelf is trying to solve this.

I was there last night and the parking was making me cringe, people are constantly reminded in the mosque not to park like that almost every week, yet they still do it.

People in Harringay seem averse to walking anywhere (witness the need to park right outside of Yssar Halim to get your bread even if it means holding up traffic.)
Sorry John - I was being flippant - must have been bloody annoying and yes, the police should have been around to keep the traffic moving and the highway safe for everyone.

it's sad but very true. almost every night, before the prayers begin we're reminded of the parking rules around the area of the mosque, yet it seems we'd rather inconvenience other road users than ourselves - by walking a few yards.

Out of 22 cricketers playing yesterday, 7 of them (from both teams) eschewed the lunch on offer and knelt down at the side of the field facing east to pray. Quite a spectacle. Game was a draw by the way...
