Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This evening, I happened to be glancing out of the window and saw a man go to my neighbours and then trot back and forth up the road before jumping in a van parked outside my house (with a fridge freezer strapped to the top). This aroused my curiousity and when I looked across the road, there was this pile of rubbish piled up by the barrier
I witnessed a crime

I suspect my neighbour is blissfully unaware of what has happened to his rubbish.

This is not the first time this scam has been pulled in this road. Some builders working for me fell for it...the rubbish was thrown in a garden across the road (which of course they retrieved with much apology to the neighbour).

There were 2 men, one older white man with grey hair and a younger black man with a baseball cap on.

Just a warning in case they call at your door

Of course, as most people on the site are now aware, Haringey will remove a lot of things for free or for less than 20 quid however, these guys may be exploiting that these things

* Rubble
* Masonry and tiles
* Construction waste
* Waste from house renovations

are NOT collected

We obviously give new residents as much info as we can, but refuse collection times vary throughout the area. The tenants we deal with tend to be pretty savvi, fortunately.

We also inform Harringay council of the dates when a change of tenancy takes place, this allows them to get the council tax billing correct, (also a good time for them to send out recycling info etc.)

Thanks for the contact info Ed
Did I mention the contribution from my caring sharing neighbour who felt compelled to add a mattress to the mix?
and of course

However, this person has an absentee, scummy landlord so maybe he just had enough of asking to get it removed.

Steve, thanks for contributing. It just seems so obvious and very little work for everyone for estate/letting agents to become part of the process in helping new people to the area to understand the system. I remember hanging onto my rubbish for over two weeks when I lived in a foreign country before I worked out where the bins were. No one thought to tell me!
Oh believe me, it's the least we can do - it's so embarassing having to pass all this stuff, whilst showing potential new residents around the area.

No - we all have a responsibility here, and it doesn't need to get complicated.

I note the caring sharing neighbour took the time to roll the mattress - see things are improving!
We were scammed the other day. We've had lots of bags of garden waste in our front garden for a while, as a result of our landlord clearing our back garden - the council refuses to take them away because they say they're 'contaminated' (they're not!) - and we have no transport, so we've just been putting them in our general rubbish a bag a week. However a bloke turned up in what looked like a council uniform and told my flatmate he was from the council and had come to collect it. He removed it, but then demanded £20 from her - he was really threatening, and she ended up giving him £10 because she was frightened, and he eventually went away. We've since had complaints from the council, because obviously he just dumped it round the corner.
Betty, I hope you have reported this to the police. As soon as money changes hands, then we are talking fraud.
Incidentally, I'm not impressed by a landlord that clears a garden and then dumps the stuff on the front garden. How does he think it will be removed, by the bin fairies? The council does have powers to make house owners remove rubbish from front gardens. I wish they used them more often...
