Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

....any more disappointed customers lately? I noticed today that the hot drinks have not only gone-up in price but shrunk in size. Maybe it's more Costa if only having a cuppa....

I still love cafe lemon. It's a great space and I'm always pleasantly surprised by the eclectic music.

One time they had underfilled my takeaway coffee - but when I told them they happily filled it up. (Next time it was a bit too full!)

I'm sure they'll find it challenging to compete with the likes of Costa... but I much prefer the friendliness and authenticity of cafe Lemon.

I tried them for the first time the other day and had the Eggs Benedict, the sauce tasted of nothing, very disappointing. It's a lovely looking cafe though.

i have always gone there for coffee, but as they keep putting the price up over the last year or so, not anymore, Its about the same as costa, except bigger cups in costa and nicer-shot themselves in the foot

The Tottenham Cafe Lemon has only been open for a few months - nowhere near a year. Are you sure you're talking about the right place (or is there another CL somewhere)?
Grover, you've responded to a two-year old thread about the original Harringay Cafe Lemon.
Please let them know - I think they'll welcome constructive feedback

I am now only an occasional visitor to Cafe Lemon but always had a high opinion of it.  The boss (Cem  -  see http://www.harringayonline.com/profile/CemKaplan865) seems to be pretty well engaged and very often present himself.  I was surprised to see reports of poor service on HoL and I went to Lemon a couple of days ago.  It was early on a wet day so the place was nearly deserted.  There were two waitresses and a couple of cooks on duty.  Maybe I was being unduly sensitive but I felt that there was a distinct coolness among the staff though I got no hint as to the cause.  There was no smiling greeting as there always was before.  I strode up to the counter and greeted the waitress with some friendly words.  She turned out to be English (which was a bit of a surprise - although from South London which is almost as foreign as all the other countries that Cem recruits his staff from!).  She responded well enough and my omelette was well and very quickly cooked.  In delivering my breakfast to the table though, I sensed a kind of reluctance even though she returned my smile.

One shouldn't perhaps over analyse but I felt that Cem (who was not around) needs to pay attention.

I've just managed to get hold of owner Cem. He's just back from a few weeks away and is aware of the problem that developed in his absence.

He's now on the case and will drop by HoL soon and respond to the concerns raised here.

My name is Cem Kaplan and I own the cafe along with my business partner Irfan. I’m adding this post to respond to a couple of threads posted last month that have picked up on some problems at Cafe Lemon.

First of all thank you all so much for taking the time to offer feedback on our cafe and huge apologies for any drop-off in standards you may have noticed.

I do recognise some of the issues that have been highlighted. Most of these problems developed whilst I was away through August.  For those of you who know us, I’m sure you’ll know that for many years we’ve offered tasty, great value food and friendly service. Sometimes things hit a rough patch and sad to say, we’ve just been travelling a rather bumpy road. Sometimes, however, it’s no bad thing to get challenging feedback. It’s an opportunity to reappraise and make things even better than they were before.

I want to reassure you all that we’re now on the case and are rapidly putting things right and we’re aiming at delivering even better service and even tastier food, made with even better ingredients, whilst still offering traditional Cafe Lemon value.

So what will the changes be? Let me offer just one or two insights.

First and foremost, we’ve recruited a new team of staff especially chosen to put the smile back in the Lemon! I’m sure you’ll feel the love next time you come in.

Our direction of travel with Cafe Lemon has been to put a real focus on high quality ethical food whilst not losing sight of good value. Wherever possible we’re trying to 'keep it local' by sourcing our produce locally. We’re also treading the fair trade path. In some instances this, along with rent hikes, means that with great reluctance we have had to put some of our prices up.

For example, we now use only 100% organic fair-trade arabica beans. Our price increased from £1.99 to £2.20. We hope you'll agree that at the same time as offering great coffee and supporting the fair trade movement this still represents good value.

We’re doing similar things with our food. In one development, we’ve started partnering with local butcher Baldwins, to offer a high quality gourmet free range breakfast - delicious and well worth a try!

BUT, we also want to keep good value at Lemon. So, we’re currently working on the prices of our regular breakfast and aiming to reduce them if we can do so without impacting on quality.

We have been in Harringay since 2004 and we love being here. We’re committed to our neighbourhood, just as we’re committed to offering you all a great community cafe experience. Please do pop in and try us. I am usually 'in the house', sometimes in the back office, and I’d love the chance to meet you. Whether you just want to say hi or give me some good or bad feedback, just ask for Cem (pronounced Jem) and I’d welcome a chat.

Is the 'free range' breakfast currently available?

Yes, it's already on our menu.

You put your coffee prices up...fair enough, that's expected...but there's a huge reduction in size...??

Having said that, I've never had any other problems in Café Lemon.
