Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition supports Labour in Harringay By Election

The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) will not be standing a candidate in the Harringay ward by-election as we will be supporting the Labour candidate in the ward Jeremy Corbyn first represented.
Congratulations to Zena Brabazon in her selection as the Labour candidate. We particularly support her for her active campaigning against Haringey Council's regeneration plans for Tottenham which amount to little more than social cleansing.

The referendum result, described by Dianne Abbott as a 'roar of defiance against the Westminster elite", has plunged the establishment into crisis. The Tories are in turmoil, with Cameron finished and a bruising leadership battle ahead. An early general election is possible. But rather than taking the opportunity to finish off the Tories the right wing of the Labour Party has decided to create their own internal crisis by trying to force out Jeremy Corbyn. We support Jeremy's policies of anti-austerity, anti-racism and environmentalism and will do what we can to defeat the 'coup'.
Good luck to Zena.

In solidarity,

Jenny Sutton, TUSC candidate, Tottenham 2015
David Kaplan, TUSC candidate, Harringay Ward 2014

At this rate, the three of you will be in the shadow cabinet! :)

Err...

What has all this referendum fallout got to do with a local by-election in Harringay ?

Blatant politicking/rambling. Not sure if Hugh has seen this?

A tough one Justin. The policy says

we allow statements of policy or fact by candidates or their representatives. However we urge great care from these members when entering debates, particularly during election periods. Statements of position or policy by candidates or their representatives, are encouraged. Comments denigrating the positions of opposing parties or any comments designed to bring into disrepute other parties, candidates or their positions are not.

As far as I can tell, this post does not denigrate or bring into disrepute any 'opposing' party. However should any non-Corbynite member of the the local Labour party object to the words of support offered by the TUSC, I will review the post.

As TUSC are not standing for election in the ward surely they don't come under "candidates or their representatives"?

I think the spirit of the house rules is clear. Given that this is posting by a local party throwing its weight behind another local party, it's fair for them to be treated as a candidate/representative. It's hardly an onerous position to put them in. It only asks them not to denigrate others in their postings on this website.

Fair enough

Frankly, I think the TUSC are irrelevant and it's not worth disturbing a number of electrons to object to their witterings :-)

Speaking of rambling, Justin, I wonder if you heard Boris's speech and what you  think of him washing his hands of the disaster he helped create?

I've been thinking about the retreat of Boris. Whoever ends up a Leader will carry out the exit negotiations. Whatever the outcome of they will be disliked intensely by both sides of the party for either a) getting a bad deal or b) concluding the exit to the ire of the remain side.
At the end of the process, probably on their way to a sanatorium, a new leadership contest will happen and Boris will step in, untainted, as the new Leader.
Quite clever not throwing in your hat for something currently so toxic.

I for one can't see anything wrong with it.
