Hi Alan,
I also worked for R. Barford (Ron) the shoe repairer. He was a physical instructor in the Army, but succombed to the 'Capstain full strength' fags, as many ex-servicemen did in those dayst.I had to buy them for him from Hatches which then became Catlains as you mentioned. Do you remember the little Gk. Cypriot shop on the corner, opp. the Wightman Rd. CrossingI used to peer in wonderment at all the strange herbs and stuff, afterall the the nearest we got to herbs were Mint sauce on the Sunday Roast,and Paxo Sage n Onion!!
I lived in the 1st house in Wightman Rd. next to Threshers off licence,and my Dad owned a huge 1937 Black Cadillac Limo parked outside. I still have the car and its being restored.
