Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The back of this postcard states that it was taken on the 13th April 1949 and copyright belongs to Alan B. Cross of Solihul. I found it in amongst some of my late father's papers. Interesting to note that the 41 terminated at Highgate in those days.

The bus is an LT type of which there were lots in London. They were withdrawn from the 41soon after the photo in 1949. The Highgate destination means Archway Stn, same as today. Later, buses showed ' Highgate, Archway Stn' before the current ' 'Archway' was adopted. The 41 started at Ilford in 1949, hence the ' Forest Road' via point on the blind..

Used to get the Routemaster 41 bus to school in the 1980’s from Tottenham to Crouch End for Highgate Wood School. Of course this wouldn’t be allowed now as the secondary school catchment areas are an alleged 2 miles boundary. It was always good to see a 41 bus with the destination “HIGHGATE village” as you knew the bus was on the full route from Tottenham Hale not just to Archway, but up the hill past the Whittington Hospital.
