It had an impact, but those with LTNs also lost. Don't underestimate their refusal to denounce an ongoing genocide, and their party's support of it. When 4 ambulances get more sympathy than 10s of thousands of children, people don't forget.
Ah, there it is. There's a word for people like you, Jamie, and it's not "legitimate critic of Israel".
And it's not a very nice word.
Wish I knew what you meant. "Justice Elaine."
Will you be telling us, please.
I do consider myself a legitimate critic of Israel, by the way. But I don't have to make things up to express that criticism. It is a genocide in Gaza.
What do you think justice Elaine has made up?
British Jews are being attacked. If people are minimising that because it doesn't fit their political world view - or because they think that it will win them votes in local council elections - it is a fair conclusion to say that they are either cynics or antisemites, and both of those factions would seem to be well represented in the current green party.
There is a war in the middle east, and it is not between goodies and baddies. The celtic-vs-rangers-isation of British politics is a worrying development, which the greens and reform are both profiting from. 100 seats in a reform-led parliament would be a dream for the greens and a nightmare for much of the rest of the well-meaning left.
Again: Netanyahu government = bad. Iranian proxies = bad. Local councillors in harringay can influence neither. Meanwhile, outside zone 6, there are plenty of angry people whose grievances about self-indulgent metropolitan elites who care more about foreign policy than people's everyday issues are being fuelled. Stupid games 》stupid prizes.
CML I didn't write that "Justice Elaine" makes stuff up.
I said - in terms - that I don't make things up to express my criticism of Israel. I don't need to. I read Omer Bartov and many other Jewish Israeli writers. And U.S. Jewish writers as well.
What I don't do is conflate Judaism with Zionism.
I have no idea how much Haringey Greens care about foreign policy in contrast with what you call "everyday issues". I read about the plight of the surviving children of Gaza. There are very many people who it sickens and angers.
P.S.
CML , could I please ask you to explain the parts of your post which make little sense to me.
If you'd rather talk on the phone , that's fine. The point would be for the two of us to listen calmy to one another. We may both learn something.
I don't speak for any, political Party. I was in the Labour Party from the last Century. Eventually I was suspended in 2014. As an elected councillor, I voted contrary to the whip against our dis-appointment of a Chief Executive
The then Chief Whip, a friendly bloke, phoned saying I should come back after a few months. But on the condition that I did retraining. I said: "No thanks, Pat. I have't got the time to retrain Labour Councillors."
Since then I've had the pleasure and duty of deciding for myself who I vote for. This moth in local elections I invited two Party's candidates to speak with me.
I've enjoyed living in Tottenham since about 1980. And being involved in campaigns and elections, the only times I recall religion being an issue was when Paul, a retired vicar joined a local group to protest against the demolition and social cleansing of some public housing estates. He objected to it as a Christian; I did as a Socialist.
We were both right.
Another example was a Moslem resident who complained to me that David Lammy MP had joined a Labour Friends of Israel group. I promised to check this. I did and my ward resident was right. Since then the Tory and Labour Friends of Israel Groups have become Free Air Trips for Genocide.
"What I don't do is conflate Judaism with Zionism"
So any Jewish person who believes Israel has a right to exist - even if they don't support the actions of the current regime - is basically a "bad" Jew and can be thrown in the "evil Zionist" basket. Right.
If I was an Israeli, with my country under permanent siege by neighbours hellbent on my eradication as well as that of my children, family and friends, then I would want someone like Netanyahu leading the country and to have the IDF, the Mossad and western allies working to protect us.
But you're not an Israeli are you, Eric Easter And perhaps that's your real English name.
Do tell us. what your interest in this narionality/passport puzzle.
Have you read the very minimum history of the State of Israel declared - 1948.
Are you perhaps a Christian Zionist who believes all the Jews should move to the Holy Land; are enttled to move to the Holy Land.of Israel?
Please tell us the interesting truth Mr Easter.
I only have an English name Alan.
I don't think English Jews should move anywhere. But as Israel allows the Jewish diaspora to move to Israel, it's entirely their right to do so (Every country should be able to set it's own immigration policy). Unfortunately, some of them now feel compelled to leave England for their own safety. That angers me. It should anger you too. Interesting enough for you?
Agreed. And I for one would prefer that war to be played out in the Middle East rather than on our streets.
