Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

She sets the strategy - make your mind up about council leader Peray Ahmet

We elect local councillors, but in practice much depends on the leader. If they back an idea, it tends to move forward; if they don’t, it can quietly stall.

Alongside getting to know your local candidates, it’s worth listening to this podcast interview with . It offers an interesting perspective on how decisions are made and what that means in practice.

Have a listen and see what you make of it.

This is an example of why the 'interests' question remains such a useful shortcut when interviewing prospective employees.

'Reading and watching TV (traitors)' could justifiably disqualify a teen for a job at a fast food outlet.

Hi Alice,

We had a friend stay over whose politics was shaped like ours from 1968. and the 1970's. He talked about the time he and his wife had lived in Germany during the rise of the Greens. And now he was observing similarities between then and now among younger people in England.

He asked when this Leader-Leader-Leader-did-I-mention-Leader-nonsense had taken hold in local councils. Was it the Blair bad example?

But the problem is not just the Leader/ cabinet system. It's the Party  and Whipping discipline system which wants councillors to behave like trained performing animals.  Seals, perhaps or horses pulling the Dear Leader's coach.

One thing to be said in favour of the Green Party is their proper understanding of co-operative teamwork. I imagine that even words like 'Co-Chair' could have struck terror into the hearts of many a Council Leader expecting a life of photos and fawning.
Somewhere I may still have a cartoon showing a friendly alien emerging from a flying saucer, saying:
"Take me to your co-operative."

(P.S I knew Starmer was a dud choice when he referred to "my Party".)

Hi Alan, Alice was asking about Making Your Mind Up!
