Much tudor-revival is not to my taste, but I think this building is redeemed by its decidedly non-tudor bold ground floor lines and its arts and crafts style copper plating on the window bays. It also retains its original Courage cockerel still attached to the upper floor,

I've just posted a photo of the original Royal Oak building here

Now THAT is a nice building! Did the Leconfield replace it?

I think it became the Oak something for a while (see Google Street view history) and then the Leconfield (after the road next door), as far as I know the current building replaced the one I’ve added the photo of at some point in the 1920s.

The Chaz and Dave (Gertcha!)  was up a bit wasn't it? in whats now a turkish club, the Pegasus at one point.

The Pegasus at 109-111 (73 in old numbering) had been there since 1851. It became a music venue called The New Pegasus owned by Chas and Dave in, I think the 1970s and developed notoriety as the place where in a 1977 bar fight Johnny Rotten was stabbed. As you say, it's been a Turkish social club since the mid-1990s.

For clarity, my "the Oak something" reference, was the Oak Bar at the former Royal Oak, number 79 (43 in old numbering).
