I remember my first experience of Kentucky Fried Chicken (as it was known then) was when the shop on Jolly Butchers Hill first opened in the mid 70's although I notice the one in Turnpike Lane is no longer there.
KFC arrived in England (Lancashire) in 1965, thus a full decade ahead of Macs, Burger King etc.
The site was a seafood restaurant for a while , as I recall.
As I remember, the premises was bought by a local who'd won the lottery and tuned into a short-lived seafood restaurant.
And I thought the first kentucky in north london was the one on seven sisters Rd, opposite Finsbury Park.
Amazing what old cars people were driving as late as 75.
Brilliant! Can’t wait for a Gail’s on Green Lanes in 50 years
