Called Methodist in my days (50s and 60s)
went to Sunday school and GLB there in the .40s 50s .Gladys May Aylward (Inn of the Sixth Happiness ) came to visit us from China .remember that amazing woman ( played by Ingrid Bergman )was born in Edmonton in 1902.
Willoughby Road Methodist Church in my day too. I was Christened here, went to Sunday School and GLB, which changed its name to GB while I attended.
I remember the fact Gladys Aylward visited but not the occasion. It was a beautiful building with a large hall, break out rooms and a huge worship area. Being Methodist, when we started taking Communion, it was blessed Ribena!!
Happy memories, happy days.
For a split second I thought Lydia and I might have been contemporaries at Willoughby but the GLB became the GB in '65 and by then I was long gone.
Couldn’t remember the year GLB changed to GB Richard, thanks for pinpointing ‘65: I was 10 that year.
were you in the Lifeboys Richard ? I was in the Cadets remember very happily marching round the block band playing heads held high down Frobisher .This would be circa 1949/51 .
Only briefly Irene; I switched to cubs/scouts up the road at St Paul's in about 1949/50; aged about 7-8. I was tone deaf and then got chucked out in about 54/5 for smoking under the stage! My brother was in BB for many years in the later 50s but down at Green Lanes Methodist.
interesting did you ever go to the Youth Club at St Pauls ?
