Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As promised (after a few beers) and a discussion about cyclist behaviour, a video of two random days cycling to the west end and the cyclists that insist on running red lights. Whether you think this is acceptable is up to you, but it isn’t to me.

This is what I see every day on my route and has become an acceptable part of two wheeled travel it seems.

As much as I expect excuses from the usual gang for this behaviour : ) I am posting this as proof of my everyday experiences, which may or may not be universal in London

Great music by Judas Priest by the way!

I can also honestly say there were about four sequences of video where no-one jumped the lights – only four mind, but the nature of the video was to prove to some, “head in sand” folk that this occurs far more than the “17% statistic”

Nuff said, you manipulated the data to backup your position.

I'm pretty relaxed about going the wrong way down a one way street, I guess that makes me a cherry picker.

Not really John that’s the point of the video, to show people going through the lights not stopping at them, call me an old stick in the mud but I would like the title of the video to reflect the content. If I bough a football video titled “Top Goals of the Season” and there weren’t any just shots wide, I’d be cheesed off. Mind you I think Port Vale will struggle to release a video like that this season, I digress.

This is a small snapshot of two journeys in different weeks. People can draw their own conclusions and people have. I was proving a point, one which was soooooo easy to do as it proves this is commonplace all over London.

How the hell can you attack the 17% statistic with one sided bias like that!?

I know it happens, I witness it too and I think that 17% (mentally I think a little less than 20) is about right.

Life is full of manipulation in opinions, news, websites – even this osite and your good self have been known to twist a bit : )

I omitted four clips and have twenty one “jumping” clips, if you think that scale of editing is manipulating the truth to fit my argument, then I disagree.

My real life experiences of people jumping the lights is far greater than 17%, believe what you wish, I trust my eyesight. Now get thee down the boozer tonight for the first prize of a bottle of Manns Pale Ale and we can continue manipulating in real life!

Lots of bike riders jump red lights. It's against the law, but how much time/money/effort would you like the authorities to spend policing it?
I'm well comfortable with cyclists getting fined fined for jumping lights, but I want car drivers to be hammered for speeding, changing lanes without indicating, using their horn inapropiriately, driving whilst on the phone

Completely agree DZ and who knows could be my next video : )

In the City of London they are "policing" it with ferocity.

Wish they'd police it in Islington. My journey much like Birdy's. Drives me nuts (I'm a cyclist). One of my main objections is how the hell you teach kids what a red light means.

Which brings us nicely back to here and the importance of such a facility...

I'm sticking to my less than 20%. I think it's perception.

Anyway, why on earth are we demonising cyclists? The way I heard a police cyclist on Tuesday talking to a bloke about to run a red light on Bishopsgate blew me away. If I am busted on the M4 in my BMW doing 100mph I am treated like a gentleman. Cyclists busted for running red lights and going the wrong way up one way streets are treated like the arse end of society by the police.
