Hornsey Carnival in Crouch End

The Hornsey Carnival passed by when I was up in Crouch End this afternoon.

Running for over 100 years, the carnival is a determined survivor. I found it strangely compelling to watch and wonder at.

This video shows pretty much the whole thing.

No sooner had it passed than a brightly dressed lady followed along and took down the advertising signs.

Comment by Vernon on July 3, 2011 at 9:00: I wonder how long it can continue. I missed it this year, one of the few that I have missed in my 30 odd years of living in the area. In recent years, despite the dedication of those involved, it has not been a patch on those early ones I saw. The streets were then lined with children filling the buckets with pennies.
