Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

10-year Old Conducts Liverpool Philharmonic at Harringay

Harringay's London Music Festival in 1947 included the hugely popular debut of Pierino Gamba. 10,000 people watched this ten year old boy conduct the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra playing Beethoven and Dvorak. This You Tube Video shows Gamba conducting an orchestra in Paris in the same year as he came to Harringay. If you'd like to learn more about Harringay Arena, see my article on Wikipedia about the Arena.

With the original video removed, you can access a further copy of it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjSrTTXdjpc and another Pathe news film, missing its soundtrack, about one of his visits to Britain - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqpMpetIbLM
