People seem interested, so I'll see if I can organise a visit as I did for a group of us to the amazing Finsbury Park Astoria.

Good start - positive noises from the architects and an agreement to approach the owner. Id I can get agreement in principle, I'll come back and we can scout out interest/dates.

Wow!! Just seen those pictures of the Astoria - I'd no idea it looked like that inside now. Has it been restored in the last 30 years or so, as I went there for a Curved Air gig in about 1972/73 and from memory it looked nothing like that back then although you could see from the plasterwork & decoration that it had been a rather grand Art Deco movie palace in its heyday.

Count me in on any possible visit to the Salisbury 1st floor. And someone mentioned the London Open House weekend - "doing" this event this is well worth it & highly recommended. It's on 18/19 September this year (wondering if I'm still brave enough to be hoisted in a swaying metal cage with 7 others to the top of a tower crane on a building site in the City).

What's this about the crane Andy?

At LOH weekend 2 years ago, you could visit the Broadgate tower building site and (after signing some waivers/indemnity forms) be hoisted in a cage to just above the top of the tower under construction. Broadgate is just north of Liverpool St station on Bishopsgate and the tower is the shorter of two being built, the other being Bishopsgate Tower.

Stunning views but very windy - I'll post up some photos within the next few days.

I told my wife about this and she immediately got excited as she and a friend are looking for a venue for a 40th birthday in March next year. This space looked ideal. A bit of IPod music and dancing, some food etc. Nothing swish. Apparently it is owned by the Paul Simon guys, and they did not seem very keen on the idea of renting it to my wife for the night. Not sure what there is to damage, but... They have not got back to us yet and we are not hopeful.

So, anyone out there got a suggestion as to somewhere similar to this locally that they might be able to have their party?

Still waiting to hear back from Socrates (yes really) at the architect's - about the visit.

Thanks for the update - I actually visited the Salisbury on Sunday (to watch the football). Not seen all of it but it's an amazing place, reminds me a bit of the Great Northern in Hornsey High St.

I was a bit disappointed when I visited the Great Northern - the outside's lovely, all hanging baskets and ironwork - but they didn't have any real beer, and it struck me as a bit of an "old man" pub... maybe I went on the wrong night.
