Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Leyland RTL13 - Manor House, 1949
Working from West Green Garage (WG) on route 29 to Victoria. This bus was new in December 1948 and only stayed with London Transport until 1958 when it was sold to a bus company in Hamilton, Scotland.. working as Chieftan N°.53 The WG garage plate (Willow Walk, N15) can be seen on the side of the bus, which still carries a 'wartime austerity' destination blind.. these were removed as from 1950. Notice also that the bus has no blinkers to indicate if it is turning, but it did have orange coloured 'arms' seen under the garage plate, which would appear when the driver turned the indicator switch.
RT type buses had no powered steering and had a pre-select gear box, which was quite difficult to get used to.

Great pic! It's good to be reminded that the 29 was not always bendy :)
Am I mistaken, or is the pic taken at the top end of Green Lanes approaching Manor House tube? Or is it impossible to make out...

Yes, I think the bus is stationary at the Manor House stop..
I especially like the mum and child upstairs on this shot - reminds me a bit of my childhood outings with my mum.. :o)
