There are plenty of pictures of the exterior of the old church (see tag, below right), but I hadn't seem one of the interior before. Earlier today, I happened to spot this grainy old photo in an electrician's trade magazine reporting on a new lighting installation.
According to an article published in the Hornsey Journal in the previous year, St Paul's was the 'First All Electric Church' in the country.

Was this perhaps the re-wiring job that caused the Great Fire of St Paul's some ?36 years later?
The National Archives holds a bundle of papers detailing work undertaken on defective fluorescent lighting in the roof. So, who knows, Eddie, maybe it was!

A sense of shame came over me. From 1960 to 1964 I visited St Paul's regularly as a Harringay district reporter for the Hornsey Journal and was in fact quite friendly with the Rev Bond. And yet... I never knew this! Not much of a hack was I then?
Good old St Paul`s church where I got married in 1958. A great shame it got burnt down, the rebuild isn`t a bit like the old church:-(
