My Mum loved Disney…so much so that in the summer of 1971 she decided to have a new three piece suite, so Mum and Dad went up to Disney, ordered a suite which was delivered on Monday…but once in the house she fydnt like it, so went back to Disney on Tuesday, another suite was ordered…which she didn’t like. This went on all week with one suite that looked like something from a science-fi film and was so big Dad’s feet were in the fire place.
five suites later she finally settled on a suite which was still in use 8 years later. Disney had the patience of saints and we still talk about the ‘Five suites week of 1971.’
Anther superb atmospheric picture of the time. A lone cycle parked, seems there’s no traffic.
My 1948 Post Office Directory states that Disney’s was 34 – 35.
Next door, at 36 was S&R Bernbaum Wholesale mantle makers.
At 37, Lilley & Skinner Boot and Shoe dealers.
Just a thought, I wonder if Bernbaum’s were gas mantle makers or makers of over garments or overcoats, mainly in the ladies tailoring trade?
Christine Yates..........great story. Can't imagine that happening now. A lot of furnishers state around 12 week delivery for furniture now days.
